What are Earth Switches?
The earth switches are mounted on the base of the line side isolator. These are typically vertically broken switches. The earth arms are generally aligned horizontally with the switching on the operation and when these arms rotate and move in the vertical area and makes a contact with the earth, it then gets fixed at the top of insulator stack of the isolator. The earth switch arms are interlocked with the main isolator and move towards the switch and then it closed with the isolator when it’s in the open position. In the similar manner, the isolator contacts when only the earth arms are in the open position.
What is the function of the earth switches?
Isolators with the earth switches are used for grounding the remaining charge in the power lines after it disconnects with the line from source. When a circuit is broken in some conditions or is left open, then there is residual charge remaining in the circuit. Therefore, in this case, discharge the charge by using the Earth switch is vital. In the normal conditions, the insulator, Lightning Arrester, Goab Switch and Do Fuse do gets include in the circuit breakers and this result in getting the earth switch closed. In the maintenance period, the circuit breakers and the isolators are kept in open position and then the earth switch is kept closed.
Technical Features of the Isolators with earth switches:
- The Isolators with the earth switches are compactly designed
- It’s rugged construction with the proven performance under severe operating conditions of the Electric Traction Vehicle
- Most importantly, there’s no need of maintenance or very minimum maintenance is requirement
- It is manually operated from inside the vehicle
- It is interlocked with the KEY arrangement for the safe operation
- The earth switches ensures high Electrical and Mechanical Endurance
RK Cera Chem is involved in offering the clients with high-quality isolators with the earth switches which are best for a wide range of applications. In the substations, the circuit breakers, isolators and earth switches are connected. During the maintenance period, or in any other condition, if there’s a need of opening or breaking the circuit, then it is vital that a proper sequence is followed for the operations of circuit breakers, isolators and earth switches. If by chance an individual follows the incorrect sequence, then it could be a danger for us as well as equipment and circuits.
